To pray in a mosque, Muslims must first perform ablution and remove their shoes. They then find a clean spot on the floor to pray, facing the direction of Kabah which is in Mecca.

To perform salah, or prayer, Muslims follow these steps:

  1. Stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms by your sides.

  2. Raise your hands to your ears and say "Allahu Akbar" (God is the greatest).

  3. Recite the Fatiha, the first chapter of the Quran.

  4. Bend at the waist, placing your hands on your knees and saying "Subhana Rabbiyal 'Azim" (Glory to my Lord, the Most Great).

  5. Stand up straight again, saying "Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah" (Allah hears the one who praises Him) and "Rabbana lakal hamd" (Our Lord, to You is all praise).

  6. Kneel down and place your forehead on the floor, saying "Subhana Rabbiyal A'la" (Glory to my Lord, the Most High).

  7. Sit back on your heels, placing your hands on your knees and saying "Rabbighfirli" (My Lord, forgive me).

  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7

Sit cross-legged on the floor and recite the Tashahhud, a declaration of faith.

Turn your head to the right and say "As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah" (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon you) and then turn your head to the left and say the same thing.

Muslims pray in congregations in mosques, and the imam (prayer leader) leads the prayers.
