The answer is No, Muslims are forbidden from the consumption of any intoxicants (specifically Alcoholic beverages) by several verses of the Quran. One of them states:
You who believe, intoxicants and gambling, idolatrous practices, and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful. (Al-Mai’dah 5:90.)
and also:
Say oh Muhammad, when they ask you concerning wine and intoxicants, say to them that there is benefit. But there is also harm. And the harm outweighs the benefit, so stay away from it. (Al-Baqarah 2:219)
So it has been ordered by Allah (God) himself that Muslims steer clear from the consumption of alcohol and any other form of drugs and intoxicants. Therefore Muslims do not drink alcohol because as well as being forbidden by Islamic law alcohol harms their health and maintaining human soul is one of the main objectives of the Islamic Shariah ( Islamic Law).
A question that would pop up here is: why is alcohol forbidden? It has everything to do with the ill-effects of alcohol on human health. Allah tells us that there are benefits in alcohol but the negative effects of it out way the benefits. Thus alcohol is forbidden.
You may have a Muslim friend or colleague who does drink alcohol. This is a personal choice of theirs, maybe due to their weakness in belief or lack of knowledge on this Islamic legislation and we pray that Allah (God) guides us all onto the path of the righteous.
