Summary

Paradise is one of the final destinations of a person after the Day of Judgement, the other being the Hell-fire. Paradise or 'Jannah' as it is called in Arabic, is described in a huge amount of detail in Islam, including everything from the environment, dwellings, people, pleasures and even the food.

Paradise is the stage of the afterlife which begins when the Day of Judgement is over, it is one of two final stages alongside the hell fire, and it will last for an eternity for those who enter it.

And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous, not far, , “This is what you were promised – for every returner [to Allah ] and keeper [of His covenant] Who feared the Most Merciful unseen and came with a heart returning [in repentance]. Enter it in peace. This is the Day of Eternity.” [The Qur'an: Qaf 50:32-34]

There are many things mentioned in Islam that describe Paradise, for example the entrance gates:

The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “In Paradise there are Eight gates, one of them is called Al-Rayyaan, and none shall enter from it except for those who observe fasting” [Bukhari 3257]

The Prophet Muhammad (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The Gates Of Paradise will be opened on Mondays and Thursdays, and then all slaves of Allah who do not associate anything with Allah in worship will be granted forgiveness, except for the person who harbours enmity against a fellow [Muslim] brother, then it will be said regarding them: Delay them until they are reconciled with one another.” [Abu Dawud 4916]

The environment of Paradise:

“Allah has promised the believing men and believing women Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein [forever], and beautiful mansions in Gardens of everlasting bliss. But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allah. That is the supreme success.” [The Quran: Al-Tawbah 9:72]

“Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs.” [The Qur'an: Al-Hijr 15:45]

“and they will reside in the high dwellings [Paradise] in peace and security.” [The Qur'an: Saba’ 34:37]

“For them will be Gardens of Eternity: beneath them rivers will flow” [The Qur'an: Al-Kahf 18:31]

“…in it are rivers of water the taste and smell of which are not changed; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine delicious to those who drink; and rivers of clarified honey (clear and pure) therein for them is every kind of fruit; and forgiveness from their Lord..” [The Qur'an:Muhammad 47:15]

Therein will be a running spring. Therein will be thrones raised high. And cups set at hand. And cushions set in rows. And rich carpets (all) spread out” [The Qur'an:al-Ghaashiyah 88:12-16]

“And below them both [in excellence] are two [other] gardens. So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? Dark green [in colour]. In both of them are two springs, spouting. So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? In both of them are fruit and date palms and pomegranates.” [The Qur'an: Al-Rahmaan 55:62-68]

“Any fruit [any] that they may choose, And the flesh of fowls that they desire” [The Qur'an:Al-Waaqi’ah 56:20-21]

The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “In Paradise, there is a tree under the shadow of which a rider can travel for a hundred years without covering (the distance) completely.” [Bukhari 3252, Muslim 2826]

The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There is not a tree in Paradise, except that its trunk is made of gold.” [At-Tirmidhee 2525]

The dwellings of Paradise:

The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked about the material that Paradise is made from, he replied by saying: “Bricks of gold and silver, and mortar of fragrant musk, pebbles of pearl and sapphire, and soil of saffron. Whoever enters it is filled with joy and will never feel miserable; he will live there forever and never die; their clothes will never wear out and their youth will never fade.” [At-Tirmidhi 2526]

The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “A tent (in Jannah) is like a hollow pearl which is thirty miles in height. On every corner of the tent the believers will have a family that cannot be seen by the others.” (In another narration (The tent is) sixty miles (in height).” [Sahih al-Bukhari]

The clothing of Paradise:

These! For them will be ‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens); wherein rivers flow underneath them, therein they will be adorned with bracelets of gold, and they will wear green garments of fine and thick silk. They will recline therein on raised thrones. How good is the reward, and what an excellent resting place!” [The Qur'an: Al-Kahf 18:31]

“Indeed, Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds to gardens beneath which rivers flow.They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearls, and their garments therein will be silk.” [The Qur'an: Al-Haj 22:32]

“Indeed, the righteous will be in a secure place; Within gardens and springs, Dressed in [garments of] fine silk and brocade, facing each other.” [The Qur'an: Al-Dukhaan 44:51-53]

“And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments].” [The Qur'an: Al-Insaan 76:12]

Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink.” [The Quran: Al-Insaan 76:21]

The Prophet Muhammad (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Tooba is a tree in Paradise, as wide as (what would require) a hundred years journey; the clothes of the people of Paradise come from the outer parts of its flowers.**” [Silsilat al-Hadith As-Saheehah, 4/639, no. 1985]

The people within Paradise:

“And with them will be maidens of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye,” [The Qur'an: As-Saaffaat 37:48]

“They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.” [The Qur'an: At-Toor 52:20]

The Prophet Muhammad (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The first group (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like the moon when it is full. They will not spit or blow their noses or defecate. Their utensils will be of gold and their combs of gold and silver; in their centers the aloe wood will be used, and their sweat will smell like musk. Everyone of them will have two wives; the marrow of the bones of the wives’ legs will be seen through the flesh out of great beauty. They ( i.e. the people of Paradise) will neither have differences nor hatred among themselves; their hearts will be as if one heart and they will be glorifying Allah in the morning and in the evening.” [Bukhari 3245]

“‘And (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which they shall enter and (also) those who acted righteously from among their fathers, and their wives, and their offspring. And angels shall enter unto them from every gate…” [The Qur'an: al-Ra’d 13:23]

“They and their wives will be in pleasant shade, reclining on thrones.” [The Qur'an: Yaa-Seen 36:56]

“Enter Paradise, you and your wives, in happiness.” [The Qur'an: al-Zukhruf 43:70]

The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Seventy thousand, or a seven hundred thousand of my nation will enter Paradise, the first of them will not enter until the last of them does so. Their faces will be as [beautiful as] the full moon.” [Bukhari 3247]

_The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “…*_*Their appearance will be the same and they will look like their father Adam who was sixty cubits tall.” [Bukhari 3327]

The pleasures of Paradise:

“and they shall dwell forever in that which their souls desire” [The Qur'an:Al-’Anbiyaa’ 21:102]

“No soul knows what comfort is is kept hidden for them, as a recompense for their deeds.” [The Qur'an: As-Sajdah 32:17]

“and you shall have therein what your souls desire and you shall have therein what you ask for” [The Qur'an: Fussilat 41:31]

“and there will be found all that the souls desire, and the eyes delight in, and therein, you shall dwell forever.” [The Qur'an: Az-Zukhruf 43:71]

“Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs and such fruits as their hearts desire” [The Qur'an: Al-Mursalaat 77:41-42]

“There shall be passed around them platters of gold, and cups, therein being whatever the souls desire, and the eyes delight in. ‘And therein, you shall dwell forever.” [The Qur'an: Az-Zukhruf 43:71]

The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah, the Blessed and the Most High said: “I have prepared for my righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard of and what has never occurred to a human’s heart “ [Bukhari 3244, 4779, 4780 and 7498 Muslim 2824, 2825]

A man asked the Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him): O Messenger of Allah, will there be horses in Paradise? He said: “If Allah admits you to Paradise, whenever you wish be carried on a horse of red rubies that will fly you wherever you want in Paradise, you will be able to do this.” And another man asked him: O Messenger of Allah, will there be camels in Paradise? but he did not give him the same answer that he had given to his companion. Instead, he said to him: “If Allah admits you to Paradise, you will have therein whatever your heart desires and that which delights your eyes.” [At-Tirmidhi 2543]

The food of Paradise:

“Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; [it is] White, delicious to the drinkers; Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.” [The Qur'an: Al-Saaffaat 37:45-47]

“The description of Paradise which the righteous have been promised is that in it are rivers of water incorruptible; rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine delicious to those who drink; and rivers of clarified honey (clear and pure) therein for them is every kind of fruit; and forgiveness from their Lord. (Are these) like those who shall dwell for ever in the Fire, and be given, to drink, boiling water, so that it cuts up their bowels?” [The Qur'an: Muhammad 47:15]

“in them [both will be fruits, date palms and pomegranates” [The Qur'an: Al-Rahmaan 55:68]

“And with fruits, any that they may select; And the flesh of fowls that they desire” [The Qur'an: Al-Waaqi’ah 56:20-21]

“And those on the Right Hand – who will be those on the Right Hand? [They will be] among thornless lote-trees, Among Talh trees with fruits piled one above another, In shade long extended, By water flowing constantly, And fruit in plenty.” [The Qur'an: Al-Waaqi’ah 56:27-32]

“And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger)” [The Qur'an: Al-Insaan 76:17]

“Verily, for the muttaqoon, there will be a success [Paradise], gardens and grape yards” [The Qur'an: Al-Naba’ 78:31-32]

In summary, Paradise is something beyond the human mind and comprehension, it's delights and wonders are many and only a small amount has been mentioned in this article regarding it. It is the destination that every Muslim hopes and works for.
